2012 Highlights

Jim

We are weighed down, every moment, by the conception and the sensation of Time. And there are but two means of escaping and forgetting this nightmare: pleasure and work. Pleasure consumes us. Work strengthens us. Let us choose. Charles Baudelaire That's a bit more descriptive than time flies - which it does - and is why I'm writing my 1st blog of the year in September!  More often than not, I get pleasure from my work - or at least, it's rewarding - read on....

Early in the year, I had shows with Google - at their Mt. View headquarters and in SF with Group X; Adobe with Carlstrom Productions & the bi-annual Seagate Employee meeting produced by The Kenwood Group.

Sadly, I lost an old friend in early 2012 - Terry Dolan, a Marin County singer/song-writer. Terry introduced me to the Cipollina family and that led to theElectric Guitarslinger documentary I co-directed with Jesse Block. A labor of love and a real pleasure to complete. The story of  John Cipollina, his music and family played at the 1991 Mill Valley Film Festival. Jesse completed Recoil, a 3 DVD set - which includes the original doc - in 2011.

February brought a pleasurable production as I directed a BYOD video for Aruba Networks, produced by Elastic Creative. A television production setup - multi-cam switched live to tape; with Sony EX3's and Kino Flo lighting. It's all about BYOD these days - Bring Your Own Device: PC, tablet or mobile and access whatever information you need on any device

After a  show in Seattle for Creative Technology on Goalen Group Media's production for Boeing, it was back to SF for the Tech Fellow Awards - for Cue1Go. The TechFellow Awards honor innovators in the field of technology with $100,000 awards to build and invest in the next generation of startups. Host was Jim Parsons, star of  The Big Bang Theory

Walmart Meeting in Orlando

Walmart Meeting in Orlando

March and I'm in Orlando for the Walmart Managers meeting - with a nasty cold as I remember - so no pleasure here. (Although it was a great looking show created by TBA Global & Creative Technology). Notice the curved LED "ribbons" at the top.

Then it's off to New York City for two shows in 3 weeks. The Safilo eyeware fashion show and the New York Auto show. Two weeks later I'm down in San Diego for the Cisco Partner Summit for InVision Communications.  The following week is a Facebook Sales meeting with Audio Visual Techniques. Then back to LA for the Milken Global Conference.  Mark Zuckerberg, George Lucas and President Bill Clinton, all in two weeks! Why not add Mark Pincus, CEO of Zynga, because the day after I get back from LA, it's a Zynga show at the Warfield Theater in SF.

One day off then the Citrix Synergy show at Moscone Center produced by Aimia.  A couple of weeks back home then off to Northwest Arkansas for the Walmart Shareholders meeting, celebrating their 50th anniversary. As usual, many hours of rehearsals  production & show with a myriad of superstar acts and hosts: Mike Rowe, Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift, Lionel Richie, Juanes, the Zac Brown Band and Celine Dion.

And now the most pleasurable production of the year - and it was pro bono!

In April 2011, the ownership team of what would become the San Rafael Pacifics made a presentation to a neighborhood organization who's board I sit on. As soon as I heard the possibility of pro ball coming to my home town my first thoughts were we have to do live broadcasts.  14 months and many hours of pre-production later, the dream became a reality. June 4th, a group of video & broadcast professionals volunteered their time and equipment to pull off a broadcast of the home opener at Albert Field. A crew of over 25 plus announcers Bruce MacGowan and Rich Walcoff braved early morning rain and were ready to go for the 6:30 pm opening ceremonies.
